Milan

Milan (Italian: Milano) is a city located on the plains of Lombardy in northern Italy. The city itself is relatively small in terms of geographical area, and has a population (as of December 2006) of 1,303,437. However, the city is also surrounded by a large metropolitan area, and when this is taken into account the total population of the area is around 7.4 million.

Milan is the financial center of Italy, and home to the Italian Stock Exchange (Italian: Borsa Italiana). Additionally, the area around the city is home to a large industrial base (including the automobile company, Alfa Romeo), and is internationally famous for its contributon to the world of fashion and design.

More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves Snapshot guide is a tour guide in your pocket.

Rick Steves Snapshot guides consist of excerpted chapters from Rick Steves European country guidebooks. Snapshot guides are a great choice for travelers visiting a specific city or region, rather than multiple European destinations.
